Scientific name Moenkhousia sanctaefilomenae
Common name Red-Eyed Tetra, Redeye
Natural Habitat Paraguay, eastern Bolivia, eastern Peru, and western Brazil
Appearance Overall silvery colour with clear fins, black caudal peduncle and distinctive red on the eye.
Maximum size

2½ inches

Aquarium Compatibility Peaceful, best kept in a small shoal
Diet Omnivorous; feed with a good-quality flake food supplemented with small live foods on occasion.
Notes One of the hardiest fish I have ever kept; my current shoal of six was bought to "kick off" the biological filter in a new tank I had set up, and coped with new water etc. with no problems whatsoever.
